Omata House

This project is an economical design for a builder’s personal residence in Omata, New Plymouth. The design brief was specific, requiring a rectangular house with all rooms having rectilinear shapes and mandatory eaves.

The layout of the living spaces and the main bedroom was designed to offer a 180° panorama of a serene rural valley and the southern view of Mount Taranaki. A saw-tooth roof was chosen to maximise morning sunlight. The cladding material needed to reflect the client’s extensive experience with longrun metal cladding and emphasise durability and authenticity. Consequently, we selected raw mill-finish aluminium for the cladding and joinery (with a few exceptions).
