Ōpunakē High School Music Rooms
This project at Ōpunakē High School involved transforming an unused amenities block into a new music teaching facility. Spaces include a classroom, recording studio, music practice suite, piano room and an equipment store.
Due to a drive by the Ministry of Education to remove a block of old portacom classrooms, which included music teaching facilities, the need arose to create a music teaching facility using existing building space, and it was decided to convert an unused amentities block into a new music teaching area.
We knocked out a bunch of walls and replaced them with a sturdy steel portal and a series of timber beams, opening up some smaller rooms into one decent sized classroom.
Due to budgetary constraints, some of the luxuries, such as acoustic wall linings and new more generously sized windows, had to be cut out of the scope of works, but will come at a later date. For now, the teachers and students are just glad to have a more generous and flexible music teaching facility than they had before, and are looking forward to adding the final touches further down the track.
